What We Do
Signs that identify permanent rooms and spaces, such as restrooms, offices, conference rooms, stairwells and exits, must be readable by touch for people with low vision or blindness. Spazio Design fabricates ADA-compliant signs in Miami with raised characters, Grade 2 Braille and non-glare finishes, and installs them at the correct height and location.
Whether you are opening a new office, renovating a restaurant or bringing an older building up to standard, we match the signs to your brand and handle the installation across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Under the 2010 ADA Standards, signs that identify permanent rooms and spaces need tactile characters and Braille. This includes:
Men, women, all-gender and family restroom signs.
Offices, suites, conference rooms and classrooms.
Exit doors, exit stairs and exit passageways.
Mechanical, electrical and janitorial rooms that are permanently labeled.
Temporary signs, and signs that only give directions or information (such as a lobby directory), do not need Braille, but they do need readable text and good contrast. Florida applies the ADA Standards through the Florida Building Code, so confirm any special local requirement with your building official. This page is general guidance, not legal advice.
Uppercase, sans-serif, between 5/8 in. and 2 in. tall, raised at least 1/32 in.
Contracted Braille placed directly below the text.
Characters and background must not reflect light.
Light characters on a dark background, or the reverse.
Restroom symbols sit in a 6 in. minimum clear field, with the text description below.
On the wall next to the latch side of the door: 48 in. minimum to the baseline of the lowest Braille, 60 in. maximum to the baseline of the highest raised character.

How It Works
Floor plan, room names and numbers, or just photos of your doors.
You approve a proof with the text, Braille and layout.
Signs are mounted at compliant heights and locations.
Interior room signs usually do not need a sign permit, but exterior signs, new monument signs and some tenant signs do, and requirements vary by municipality. If your project includes both, we handle the paperwork for the permitted signs. See our sign permits in Miami-Dade page.
No. Braille and raised characters are required for signs that identify permanent rooms and spaces, such as restrooms and room numbers. Directional and informational signs do not need Braille.
The baseline of the lowest Braille must be at least 48 inches above the floor, and the baseline of the highest raised character no more than 60 inches above the floor.
On the wall next to the latch side of the door. If that is not possible, it goes on the nearest adjacent wall, following the ADA Standards.
Yes. Colors and layout can follow your brand as long as the contrast, finish and tactile requirements are met.
